Common questions

Which supermarkets are priced?

Woolworths, Pak’nSave and New World, at the stores named above the calculator. Prices vary between stores, especially at Pak’nSave, so treat the total as a guide for your area.

How is the cost worked out?

Each ingredient is matched to a real product at every chain, and the total counts the whole packs you’d buy, not just the spoonful the recipe uses. Pantry staples like salt and oil are listed separately.

Which recipe sites work?

Almost all of them. Sites that publish standard recipe data are read directly, and anything else is read from the page itself. Instagram and TikTok posts work when the recipe is in the caption.

How current are the prices?

Prices come from Pricer, which tracks New Zealand supermarket prices and refreshes them every night.

Can I price my own recipes every day?

Yes. Create a free household and every recipe you save is priced at the stores you shop at, with a shopping list for whichever dinner wins the vote.
